Celebrating the Champions of Animal Protection

Humane World for Animals is a unique event that brings together a diverse group of individuals who share a common goal: to protect and promote the welfare of animals. The event celebrates the service of 247 legislators across 41 states, the District of Columbia, and most of the U.S. territories.

The Humane Society of the United States is grateful for their support and commitment to animal welfare.

  • The passage of the Animal Welfare Act in 1966, which established minimum standards for the treatment and care of animals in research facilities.
  • The passage of the Endangered Species Act in 1973, which protected threatened and endangered species from extinction.
  • The passage of the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act in 2007, which prohibited the interstate and international transportation of animals for the purpose of fighting.
The Role of Lawmakers in Animal Welfare Advocacy
  • Lawmakers play a critical role in advancing animal welfare legislation. They have the power to introduce and pass bills that benefit animals, and they can also use their influence to block legislation that harms animals.

They genuinely care about the welfare of animals and want to make a difference. From the animalsโ€™ perspective, itโ€™s not a game of political posturing, but a matter of survival. For humans, itโ€™s a matter of ethics and compassion. The elected officials who work hard to make government work better for animals are the ones who truly understand the importance of conservation and sustainability. They are the ones who are willing to make tough decisions and take bold actions to protect the planet and all its inhabitants.
